Hounds Keep the Cup!

Hounds Keep the Cup!

Leipheimer Gym was rocking as tan and white ruled the court for a fourth consecutive year at the annual Battle for the Cup — aka Big Game. Enthusiasm along the sidelines was matched by the hustle and heart on the court, as Foxcroft’s oldest and most beloved tradition, Fox/Hound Basketball, was played with all the enthusiasm, 华丽, and intense competition we have come to expect and enjoy.

Hound Big Team Captain Flora W. ’25 and all-conference players Sarah F. ’24 and Irene B. ’24 led their team to a 42-30 win to claim the coveted Cup. Fox Big Team Captain Tashae’ A. ’25, an all-conference player herself, guided her teammates with determination and heart, inspiring solid defense and rebounding that brought the Foxes to within three points of overtaking the Hounds. In the end, though, the Foxes could not match the evenly dispersed shooting power of the Hounds.

When the last seconds ticked away, the drums and cheers of students, 教师, 女校友, and parents all decked out in their buttons and colors erupted just a bit louder as the Hounds tied their ribbons and triumphantly raised The Cup.

在周五, the Puppy and Cub teams battled relentlessly throughout Little Game, with the Puppies coming on strong in the first quarter. The Cubs came back with a vengeance, pulling ahead in the second quarter and gradually extending their lead in the remaining quarters for a 16-10 win. Middle Game saw the Foxes take an early lead that the Hounds, though they gave it their all, couldn’t surmount, and the game ended 22-4 Foxes.

Both sides played with passion and grit throughout the games, and the spirit of the Fox/Hound tradition — true friends to the end — came to the fore, with hugs for teammates and rivals alike and a thunderous final round of cheers before students and 教师 headed off to Spring Break.

Thank you to all who came out to support their team and enjoy this treasured tradition!
